I had a vase of tulips on the kitchen window sill and at certain times of the day, the sunlight shone through them, enhancing their beauty. While using them as a reference for this painting, I was thinking about how flowers often look, to me, as though they are glowing with their own 'god-like' energy. This influenced the style I chose for this painting.
