Georgia O'Keeffe style convulvulus painting
Acrylic on canvas, 12x16"
The painting is on a stretched canvas, painted round the sides, with a string on the back, so it is ready to hang as it is, or can be framed if you prefer.
I like Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings of Jimson Weed and thought of them when I saw Bindweed (convulvulus), which looks similar, in the hedges on our summer walks along the canal. I took some photos and tried to do a similar styled painting. O'Keeffe's paintings are more simplified with a more limited palette than mine but I wanted to include my favourite blues and purples just because I like them. Despite being an invasive weed which gardeners hate, I wanted to paint bindweed as a thing of beauty. Luckily while I was photographing the flowers a Small Magpie Moth landed on them so I included it in the painting.
