Acrylic on canvas, 12 x 16"
The painting is on a stretched canvas, painted round the sides, with a string on the back, so it is ready to hang as it is, or can be framed if you prefer.
I love the dark dramatic look of jackdaws. We saw these on our early morning walks while staying in Port Isaac on the North Cornwall coast one December. There weren't many people around at that time of year and the birds didn't seem too wary of us. I have read that jackdaws can be tame compared to other birds if they get used to people. I could get close enough to get some good clear photos just with my phone camera which I could then use as reference for the painting.
Jackdaws are the smallest members of the Corvid family. You can distinguish them from crows by the grey on the back of their necks and the pale eyes. They also sound different from crows, making a "jack-jack" sound rather than a "caw" sound. You can read more about jackdaws on the RSPB's website.
The sociable group of jackdaws we saw each day seemed to have a favourite place on a wall overlooking the sea, although you can also find jackdaws in woods and on farmland.
