Scottish highland cattle painting
Acrylic on canvas, 16x12"
The painting is on a stretched canvas, painted round the sides, with string on the back, so it is ready to hang as it is or can be framed if you prefer.
When we turned a corner on a walk in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and saw these cattle it felt as though we had stumbled into their private world. Maybe because they were the only cows with long horns that we had seen on that trip. In the photo I painted this from they seemed to be in a pose of togetherness. We did actually see them doing a 'togetherness act' at one point. I felt we had intruded a bit, on their romantic time together. While doing this painting I was thinking about them facing the Scottish elements together in the wild, and the mystery for us, of how that would feel for them. I wanted the painting to have a slightly mysterious atmosphere. I had started the painting in only blue and white, and leaving a lot of the blue to show through seemed to give it this mysterious feel.
