Seascape oil rig in a storm painting
Acrylic on canvas, 18x14"
I wanted to paint something of a similar subject to a J M W Turner painting. I particularly like his seascapes and mixture of nature and industry.
I like the idea of this painting illustrating the vulnerability of humankind in the midst of the wild forces of nature. Most of us don’t often think about people working out on oil rigs, even though their work benefits us in everyday life. They are isolated and reliant on the manmade structure on which they work and live, to keep them safe from the worst conditions they may face in the middle of the sea. It is impressive what people are up against and also impressive that they mostly manage to survive it.
