The painting is on a stretched canvas, painted round the sides, with a string on the back, so it is ready to hang as it is, or can be framed if you prefer.

This is one of my favourite Van Gogh paintings. I like the depiction of an everyday type of scene. The people are poor and the home is rustic, but the atmosphere feels warm and homely. They are Dutch peasants with only potatoes and coffee for their meal. Looking at the painting I get a sense of their relaxation after a hard day's work, which feels comforting. Although the gnarled old peasants may be considered ugly, I find Van Gogh's painting of them beautiful. I have only painted the right hand section, and I've painted it in the style in which I enjoy painting. Rather than using any brown paint, I have put red, pink, purple, blue and yellow next to each other and on top of each other. You can see the different colours close up, but from a distance the overall impression of the painting is brown.
