Welsh mountain goats painting
Acrylic on canvas, 16 x 12"
The painting is on a stretched canvas, painted round the sides, with a string on the back, so it is ready to hang as it is, or can be framed if you prefer.
I photographed these animals roaming wild around a village called Trefor in the Llyn Peninsula, North Wales. They are impressive animals with their large horns and shaggy fur. They are a species introduced during ancient Neolithic farming times, sometimes called Landrace or British primitive goats. They were part of subsistence farming communities, providing milk, meat, skins and fur. Their numbers declined due to changes in agricultural practices and deforestation but feral poplulations have survived in remote areas such as the Llyn Peninsula. I painted them in a contemporary style with dramatic nocturnal lighting and impressionist colours. These two look like they could be best friends!
